UK superyacht specialist Pendennis released details on their investment into the 48- berth marina and associated land in Vilanova I la Geltrú, Barcelona. Pendennis has been working alongside the team at Vilanova Grand Marina to develop a shared vision for a technical based marina with a supporting service center in the Mediterranean. The marina will continue to trade as Vilanova Grand Marina (VGM), and the new technical service center will be known as Pendennis Vilanova.
Mike Carr, Joint MD at Pendennis stated, “The two brands have a shared vision of delivering a world class service to the Mediterranean fleet. Underpinning this vision is the Pendennis ethos of combining experience, knowledge and skills with great teamwork.”
Vilanova Grand Marina (VGM) is focused on promoting itself as a technical marina to the fleet, whether a yacht is looking for a short stop over or a longer-term winter berth. VGM has 48 berths available to yachts from 82ft- 426ft (25m-130m) LOA and is located just 30 minutes away from Barcelona International Airport.
The newly formed Pendennis Vilanova will be Pendennis’ main base in the Mediterranean and will concentrate on providing technical service support to both existing clients and the wider fleet. Work is currently underway on phase one of the development of the technical service centre, which will include 129,166sqft (12,000sqm) of hard standing and a 716-ton (640 tonne) travel hoist with supporting piers. This facility is on schedule to be operational by early Autumn 2019.
Ruben Hernandez, General Manager of Vilanova Grand Marina commented “Through Pendennis’ investment into Vilanova we have been able to increase our maintenance and repair programme for the marina and associated buildings during this winter and spring. The marina itself has continued to be busy, benefiting from both an influx of Pendennis’ fleet arriving for pre-Med season support and independent yachts conducting routine maintenance. I am very positive about the future and what we can build here for the superyacht community in Vilanova offering not only a destination, but a full service location.”
Tyrone Harvey, Manager of Pendennis Vilanova, further backed up Ruben’s comments “We have had a strong start to our new venture in Vilanova. This first season has been about conducting projects afloat for our existing client base, showcasing our new location and overseeing the development of our new technical service centre adjacent to the Marina. Pendennis Vilanova projects will benefit from continuity of care through a combination of tradespeople from our home base in Falmouth and local sub-contractors from the region.”
