LENGTH: 295ft. 3in. (90m)
SHIPYARD: Lürssen, Germany
YEAR: 2005

Built to be one of 2005’s most environmentally friendly yachts, Ice incorporates energy efficient diesel-electric power, sophisticated noise- and vibration-reduction technology and exhaust emission control systems. Tim Heywood and Terence Disdale collaborated on the design of the contemporary vessel, which was the first yacht that Lürssen fitted with Azipod propellers. Eight 842kW Deutz 16-cylinder generators supply electric power to the propellers, the waterjet thrusters and for electrical needs. A soundproof cocoon houses each engine, which has its own filtered exhaust system. The yacht also has a static positioning system. Special features include the Eurocopter EC 135 and a swimming pool with an overflow that cascades over the main salon window. The yacht’s current owner is one of Russia’s wealthiest businessmen, Suleiman Kerimov. After recovering from a car crash, the self-made billionaire sold most of his Russian assets to invest in European banks. Although declining stocks momentarily took a bite out of his fortune, he recovered. His oil and banking businesses have contributed to his current estimated $6.5 billion fortune.
