The sophisticated integrated system onboard Papi du Papi was entrusted to Videoworks, a company specialized in integrated entertainment, networking and digital CCTV systems for mega yachts. They spoke to us about the process involved in creating such an intricate, custom-designed system.
“We had a remarkable challenge with the Papi du Papi project. It had to be state-of-the-art technology and be easy to use, giving guests complete control of entertainment, lights, curtains and air conditioning through dedicated touch panels and iPads. The system also has to be integrated with Apple technology (Apple TV and Mac Mini), navigation systems and perhaps more importantly offer audiophile quality. Finally, all of this had to be accomplished with a minimal amount of wiring and connections.
In order to meet all these requirements, we integrated systems from Crestron, Lutron and Cisco. The choice of the connection infrastructure was crucial in meeting all our given objectives. Crestron Digital Media makes it possible to reach all areas with a single fiber optic cable carrying audio/video contents in high definition, and the Cisco network platform ensures reliable wireless and wired connections. The Lutron system provides an efficient and easy way to illuminate the entire yacht and operate silently all automated curtains and blinds. We also gave the owners the ability to operate lights and curtains “manually”, through a special Basalte keypad that features a multi-touch sensor inset in a luxury bronze faceplate. We had a graphic design studio create a dedicated interface (incorporating layout, shape and colors) to study the owners’ personal habits to help us make the system truly functional.
Engineers did field measurements and tested all audiovisual for the media room, which features top-of-the-line equipment. Finally, we linked all systems to the pilothouse, where a touch screen allows the captain to interact with the entertainment system and the light circuit”.
