More than one shipyard is getting ready for the busy summer season. Nautor's Swan recently launched three new yachts, Amels announced a new build, and Monte Carlo is preparing for their new flagship's debut in Cannes.
Navigating the New-Build Process
New-build and refit consultant, educator, marine journalist and former CEO of Palmer Johnson Yachts, Phil Friedman, has published an e-book titled “10 Golden Rules for Successful New Build Projects.” In it Friedman addresses what he sees as key steps an owner can take in the beginning of a new-build project to smooth the process throughout and achieve the best final result.
Making Waves: Monte Fino by Humphreys Yacht Design
Kha Shing was founded in 1977 and remains a family-owned shipyard. Since inception, the builder has delivered more than 1,000 yachts. Its current order book lists 18 yachts, including nine vessels being built for Fort Lauderdale-based Hargrave Custom Yachts. Since 1985, Kha Shing has built its own yachts under the Monte Fino label.
Making Waves: Johnson Yachts' Custom Sportfisher
One of Johnson Yachts’ latest offerings is a brand-new 65 equipped with pod drives (ZF 4000), which it launched on the Australian market in its enclosed bridge version. In the United States, Johnson Yachts has been successful with its line of Bill Dixon-designed semi-custom yachts, including the 87 and flagship 105 (an appealing 125-footer has been fully engineered and is awaiting a buyer).

Lurssen's largest-ever build is shrouded in secrecy, but details are beginning to circulate. In Taiwan, Horizon Yachts recently hosted an open house to celebrate their 25th anniversary. Cannes saw a new luxury event this June with the inaugural Cannes Croisette Show.
