Inukshuk and Wavelength launched

At first glance, a 107-foot new sloop launched at Baltic and a 90-foot refit emerging from the HJB yard don’t seem to have much in common. And they don’t, except for the MCM representatives who acted for the owners on both projects. Inukshuk, a Germán Frers-designed carbon composite sloop built at the Finland-based Baltic, features an interior décor by Adam Lay Studios. Pulling her name from the stone landmark used by the Inuit of the Canadian Arctic, Inukshuk will display niceties like her sound system and automatically deployed bimini at the Monaco Yacht Show this summer. A refit project, Wavelength was once known as Bootoo, a 90-foot (27.5-meter) Ron Holland-designed hull.

“We first got involved when the clients were in discussion about a new-build. After careful evaluation, it was deemed best to purchase an interim yacht, use it for a year or so and then refit it to address any shortcomings,” said Peter Wilson from MCM. According to MCM, the test period resulted in the relocation of the helm from mid cockpit to aft deck, converting the twin to a queen, replacing the owner’s office with an extra cabin and refurbishing the mast, sails, hydraulics and main engine.

Sunreef to use IPS system on its power catamaran range

IPS is becoming more common onboard motoryachts. Catamarans, though, don’t quite follow that trend. Sunreef’s recent work with Volvo to develop an IPS system for their Sunreef 60 Power Lilu-Yacht might change that. Modifications to the design of the 60 paired with careful placement of the IPS units within the engine room and along the hull has created a successful implementation of the Volvo system. Although some additional modifications are planned to allow for closer turns and a higher degree of maneuverability, Sunreef plans to offer IPS systems on all of their power catamarans in the near future. A new power yacht model, the 90 Sunreef Power, is already in development for both standard power and an IPS system onboard.

Camper & Nicholsons Extends Crew Development Program

It hasn’t been too long since Camper & Nicholsons introduced leadership coaching within their charter fleet, but the apparent success of the program has lead to its expansion. Alison Rentoul, owner of The Crew Coach, has been working with Camper & Nicholsons since November of 2012 and will head the extension of the training and support programs to Camper’s yacht management fleet as well.
