Annual Plywood Regatta Recap

The Marine Industries Association of South Florida hosted its 17th Annual Plywood Regatta at the Dania Beach Pier on Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5. The event challenges 40 teams of middle school, high school and marine technical-school students to build seaworthy vessels using simple hand tools and only the event-supplied materials of plywood, 3M 5200 fast cure caulk and zip ties. Once completed, competitors decorate their masterpieces and prepare to put them to the test. Students race these boats on the Sunday of the event in a series of heats to determine the champion.
