Reward in Jersey Mayday Hoax

On June 11, a man claiming to be aboard a yacht called Blind Date triggered a massive search when he reported three people dead, nine injured and 21 abandoning ship after an explosion 20 miles off Sandy Hook, New Jersey. Officials believe the hoax originated on land in either New Jersey or Staten Island, New York. The Coast Guard is offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and prosecution in the June 11 incident.

Broker Training

Many who work on yachts dream of someday moving ashore and getting a “real” job that doesn’t involve working 24-7 or being away from family for extended periods. Former Florida Yacht Brokers Association Executive Director Rae Whitt and brokerage veteran Kevin Ralph have created an on-line educational opportunity for aspiring brokers called Yacht Broker Institute.

YachtBrokerInstitute

The enterprise offers an on-line course called “Fundamentals & Essentials of Yacht Brokerage” that covers topics with titles such as The Players; The Process; The Closing and Paperwork; Prospecting, Listing and Selling; and The Yachts—Technical. The coursework can be accessed from any computer. A $499 registration fee allows access to the system for a year. Upon completion, participants receive a “Certificate of Achievement.”
