Royal Yacht Squadron’s Bicentennial Regatta
Plans are already in the works to celebrate a big anniversary for the U.K.-based Royal Yacht Squadron (RYS). The club was founded in 1815, so 2015 marks its 200th anniversary and RYS will spread events throughout the year. One notable event will be the RYS International Bicentennial Regatta planned for the Solent July 25 to 31, 2015. The Bicentennial Regatta will provisionally be open to IRC classes and an International One Design fleet. There will also be match racing, plus two-boat team racing in the club’s J80s. “We hope that they will leave at the end of the event with many happy memories and will have helped forge stronger ties between our clubs as a direct consequence of their participation,” said Rear Commodore Yachting David Aisher.
The timing of the Bicentenneial Regatta was planned with the Trans-Atlantic Race, the Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week and the Rolex Fastnet Race in mind. Organizers hope yachts will be able to sail from one to the next with more than enough time to spare.
Full details of the race and other bicentennial events will be published next year.

Marlow Marine Cruising Club’s Spring Rendezvous
This past April, the Marlow Marine Cruising Club held its 18th Annual Spring Rendezvous at the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Florida. The company not only planned events, but provided surprises for guests like a free exterior wash and detailing of their yachts. Guests spent evenings enjoying cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and fine meals and attended informational seminars and demonstrations during the day. The Wild, Wild West was theme for the main event and the entire day included a golf cart poker run before a slew of cowboys and girls, Indians and other western characters descended on the beach for a barbeque dinner. Marlow reports that guests were already asking about next year’s event when they bid each other goodbye Sunday afternoon.
