Overmarine introduced the Mangusta 165 more than five years ago in Europe, but this popular series yacht only made its US debut at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in October with Hull No. 7 of the Maxi-Open yacht series. The stylish vessel, which boasts surprising interior volume within her sleek lines, caught the attention of a North American owner who currently owns the Norship Moonraker, initially built for John Staluppi. Moonraker’s longtime captain Matt Ploof and broker Terry Smith are working on the build of Hull No. 8 of the Mangusta 165 series, which will be named Moonraker.

Other recent sales by Overmarine include the first two hulls of the brand-new Mangusta 94 series, an entirely new model featuring a forward sun-deck lounge with dining area. The interior design emphasizes natural light, introduced into the salon by four skylights and large side widows. The owner’s cabin also has two portholes that can be opened. The new 94’s side glazing will become a signature feature of all future Mangusta models.

Over the past two years, despite the difficult financial climate, the Italian-based Overmarine Group has made considerable investments in its infrastructure, including building a new shipyard in Pisa for steel and aluminum yachts; forging new commercial relations to open up strategic markets and strengthening the Mangusta brand. Group Commercial Director Francesco Frediani attributes the recent sales to these forward-looking investments.
