Making Waves: McMullen & Wing’s Big Star

New Zealand builder McMullen & Wing recently released the renderings and layouts for the partially completed steel expedition yacht Big Star. The custom 164-foot (50-meter) yacht has strong lines reminiscent of her predecessor, Big Fish, but the yard drew on the experience of the first build to improve upon the concepts and design.

Something Big Down Under

New Zealand builder McMullen & Wing recently released the renderings and layouts for the partially completed steel expedition yacht Big Star. The custom 164-foot (50-meter) yacht has strong lines reminiscent of her predecessor, Big Fish, but the yard drew on the experience of the first build to improve upon the concepts and design. A product of the partnership between McMullen & Wing and Gregory C. Marshall Naval Architects, Big Star will feature a 19-foot (6-meter) splash pool, bulwark balconies and floor-to-ceiling windows and doors. The design team has explored two interior layout options—an owner-centered expedition yacht and a layout more suited to high-end charter—but other options are available as well. Because of the progress that has already been made, the yard expects a completion time of less than two years once the project finds the right owner.
