“This all began as an idea on a napkin over three years ago,” says Doug Hoogs, IAG’s Fort Lauderdale representative. “I was approached by a good friend and longtime yacht broker regarding a prominent New York client with an interest in building a large fiberglass superyacht.” With hundreds of thousands of labor man-hours required, the more-affordable skills in China became important to the equation.

The overriding mantra during the project was “quality, quality, quality,” said project manager Tim Kings. Constructed using traditional handlaid glass in the hull, resin infusion for the superstructure and carbon fiber for the upper structure, King Baby is built to RINA Class and MCA, with LY2 compliance for commercial charter. Designed by Evan K. Marshall, her interior is said to rival European quality with black walnut handcrafted woodwork and stone accents. With engineering by Sergio Cutolo she reportedly delivers on both fuel economy and speed, with a respectable 20-knot max.
