Benetti’s Fast Displacement Line

Benetti's F-125

This summer, Benetti unveiled plans for a line of composite yachts. Officially introduced at the Cannes boat show, the Fast Displacement series currently includes two models: the previously introduced F-140 and the new F-125. The Italian yard is hoping to tap into a segment of the sport yacht market with its semi-custom designs, which are capable of both range and speed, when called for. The models were developed in partnership with the Azimut Benetti Group Research Center. The result is a hull design the company calls D2P—Displacement to Planing—which pairs a planing hull with the effects of a wave-piercing bulbous bow.

“Many of our clients have requested faster, more versatile, and efficient boats, while maintaining the same level of comfort and customization found in our existing yachts. The new Fast Displacement line is designed precisely in response to these requests, and it rounds out our current offering in the Class Range,” says Benetti CEO Vincenzo Poerio.

Southern Wind Shows off Two New Hulls

Windfall

At the Monaco Yacht Show last week, Southern Wind Shipyard offered two of its most recent builds: the SW102 Hevea and the SW94 Windfall. The 92-foot (28-meter) Windfall is a performance cruiser designed by Reichel Pugh and Nauta Design. Delivered early this year, the yacht was designed to follow modern lines and functional design and the yard puts it forward as representative of their semi-custom racing cruiser line. Already this year, Windfall has completed a maiden voyage of approximately 7,000 nautical miles and competed in the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta as well as the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup.

Hull number two of the SW102 series, the 103-foot (31.4-meter) Hevea is the work of Nauta Design and Farr Yacht Design. Unlike her sister-ship Almagores II, Hevea has an additional performance package, which lightens the design by nearly two tons by replacing the standard mast with a carbon mast among other modifications. The interior design features ceruse oak and carbon details.

During the show, Southern Wind also celebrated its first RINA RIG certification, a new certification system for sailing rigs that meets the requirements of the new MCA LY3 codes.
